What an M3U player does

An M3U playlist is plain text that points to media locations. A player reads those entries and connects directly to the source you provide. It does not create a catalogue, unlock a private service or supply channels. Keep playlist addresses private: some include an access token or account details.

Play an authorized M3U playlist with Lumio

  1. Install Lumio on the device you use. Choose the Android app, TV app or desktop version from the official Lumio download page.
  2. Select “Add source” and choose M3U. Give the source a name you will recognize later.
  3. Paste the complete M3U or M3U8 address. Do not trim the query string: characters such as ?, & and = can be essential.
  4. Wait for the first real result. A successful import shows categories or items. Closing the form alone is not proof that the source loaded.

Using an M3U player on each device

DevicePractical tip
Android TV and Google TVUse the on-screen keyboard or enter a long URL from a phone when available. Confirm every character before saving.
Fire TVInstall only the APK published by Lumio, then disable sideload permission again if you enabled it for installation.
Windows and LinuxThe desktop app is useful when a browser cannot access the source because of web security restrictions.
Browser playerOpen Lumio Web Player for HTTPS sources that allow cross-origin browser requests. It never proxies a playlist through Lumio’s server.

Use an online M3U player in a browser

You can open the Lumio web player without installing an app when your authorized M3U source uses HTTPS and permits browser access with CORS headers. This is a direct connection from your browser to the source: Lumio never uploads, proxies or republishes the playlist. For HTTP-only or non-CORS sources, use the native Android, TV or desktop app. See the online M3U player guide.
