What is an M3U URL?
An M3U URL is a playlist link: when a player opens it, the link returns plain-text entries that identify the media locations for a source you are authorized to use.

What an M3U playlist URL contains
An M3U URL often returns text beginning with #EXTM3U. Further lines can name an item and provide its address. The URL may also include a query string, token or credentials supplied by the source owner. It is not a catalogue provided by Lumio, and the URL itself does not create access to a private source.
https://example.com/playlist.m3u?access_token=REDACTED
The address above is an example only. Never publish a real playlist URL in a public post, screenshot or support request. Redact access tokens, usernames and passwords before sharing a diagnostic.
How to add an authorized M3U URL
- Copy the complete link from the authorized source. Preserve every character after
?, including&and=. - Open Lumio and select Add source. Choose M3U, then give the source a recognizable name.
- Paste the link without extra spaces. A space or omitted character can make an otherwise valid link fail.
- Verify the actual result. A successful request displays categories or items. A browser page, login form or error message is not a playlist.
Why an M3U URL may stop working
- The source owner may have changed the address, revoked a token or updated access details.
- The URL may have been copied incompletely from a message or QR code.
- The network may be unavailable, or the server may temporarily return an error page instead of a playlist.
- A web browser may be blocked by HTTPS or CORS rules even though a native app can connect directly to an authorized source.
M3U URL, M3U file and M3U8 URL
An M3U file is a downloaded copy of playlist text; an M3U URL points to that text online. An M3U8 URL follows the UTF-8 playlist convention and is often an HLS manifest. In each case, use the original address provided by the source and keep its access details private.
Use your authorized playlist link
Lumio reads compatible M3U and M3U8 URLs on phone, TV and desktop.
